Provenance?

“Today, many enterprises are moving to audit open source code when it first enters the development process. In addition, many enterprises are beginning to release their own code as an open source project. In both situations, enterprises need a way to quickly audit an open source project to determine the provenance of the code and all licenses involved.”

Software source code is a necessary component for research reproducibility and reusability

Purpose: "to discuss issues on management, sharing, discovery, archival and provenance of software source code."

Recommendation: "Software source code should be properly curated in the same way as other research inputs and outputs such as research data and paper publication. Software source code developers and organisations that sponsor software development should also be properly credited and attributed."

"It could involve being shifted to a new position [..] it usually involves some serious discomfort, learning and growth."

"Cohen had to learn how to get his whole organization on the same page — and quickly."

Share a clear roadmap

"Anyone who has ever worked with different groups on one project knows the joy/headache of getting those groups on the same page. And it was Cohen’s job to get his five departments on the same page." Solution: "he incorporated cross-training, meetings with representatives of different groups". "Each department understands the plan, how they will be affected, and what their role is. The end result is a clear map guiding them down the same path towards a shared goal."
